15 thousand hectares of forest fires extinguished

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAMBI -- Commander of Task Force on forest fires of Jambi, Colonel Makmur, said 15,600 hectares of forest and land fires in Jambi had been extinguished.

"Until now, we had extinguished total of 15,600 hectares of forest fires, while 200 hectares of forest are still burning," said Makmur, Sunday (12/10).

Data received, showed that forest fires that included plantations and industrial tree plantations reached 15,864 hectares.

"According to the data received, the fire area reaches 15,864 hectares. That means there are still about 200 hectares which have not been extinguished," he explained.

Makmur stated, he has not yet reduced the number of personnel. The personnel consisted of 460 military personnel, 200 Brimob personnel and 100  from manggala agni, assisted by Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) officers and volunteers.

Related to aids from neighboring countries, Makmur said it was still focused to extinguish fires in South Sumatra. Because, based on data from Terra and Aqua satellites and NOAA, hotspots in Jambi was not as much as in South Sumatra.
