Batan will study nuclear reactor from France

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOUTH TANGERANG -- National Atomic Energy Agency (Batan) would study nuclear reactor from France. It would be conducted after the sign of Memorandum of Understanding between Batan and CEA (Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique or French Atomic Energy Centre), Monday (12/10).

Head of Batan, Djarot S Wisnubroto, revealed this cooperation was one of Batan effort in studying nuclear reactor from France.

"We want to learn from them about the nuclear reactor technology," said Djarot a press conference on Cooperation between Batan and France in Research Center for Science and Technology (Puspiptek), South Jakarta, Monday (12/10).

Djarot explained, this cooperation aims to strengthen the infrastructure. It was also expected to improve ability of human resources in Batan.

According Djarot, France reactors would be studied and explored in terms of both positive and negative side. It could be a recommendation for local governments that want to open nuclear reactors on its area.

France has various types of nuclear reactors which were quite advanced. In addition, nearly 70 percent of electricity in France was already using nuclear. Therefore, Batan was eager to learn the technology.
