KAI to launch electric train service from Yogyakarta to Solo

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operating Region (Daop) VI Yogyakarta continued to make preparation for realization of electric train service from Yogyakarta to Solo.

"In general, we are ready to run electric train (KRL). Various preparations were conducted, such as learning how to manage and treat KRL," said Executive Vice President (EVP) of PT KAI Operating Region (Daop) VI Yogyakarta, Wiwik Widayanti, in Yogyakarta, Friday (2/10).

According to her, KAI was just waiting for the completion of facilities and supported infrastructure, in particular the electrification of the train line along Yogyakarta and Solo.

"The availability of electricity becomes a very important part in the operations of KRL," she added.

He hoped that Ministry of Transportation can immediately realize the infrastructure, so that electric train service from Yogyakarta to Solo can be operated in the next two years.

"We will continue to follow up this plan through establishing more intensive coordination with Ministry of Transportation, including the type of train that will be used," she explained.

During this time, the passengers from Yogyakarta to Solo were served by diesel trains of Prambanan Ekspres and other trains such as Sriwedari, Joglokerto express and Madiun Jaya. Total passengers of train service from Solo and Yogyakarta to Kutoarjo reached about 7,000 people per day.
