Government to develop agribusiness and agro-industry

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Rural Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Kemendesa) planned to build agribusiness and agro-industry facilities in transmigration areas. Director General of Transmigration Area Development, Roosari Tyas Wardani, said the facility was built to increase the productivity of local community and the growth of local economy.

"We want the agribusiness and agro-industry facilities are built in disadvantaged areas and transmigration areas. Therefore, the two things are capable to improve the community's economy, "said Roosari, Wednesday (2/9).

The development of superior commodities is expected to attract private investment as a driver of economic migrants and locals, so that new economic centres will develop.

Currently, she said Kemendesa has designed the development of agribusiness and agro-food commodities and plantations in 48 integrated transmigration areas.

"The existence of two such facilities will invite investors to come, so that people's purchasing power will increase," she added.

In 2015, Kemendesa has been developing leading commodity food (rice) through system of agribusiness and agro-industries in 11 of integrated transmigration areas. Among of them are Mesuji, Rawapitu and Way Tuba (lampung), Telang and Belitang (South Sumatera), Lunang Silaut (West Sumatera), Batu Betumpang (Bangka Belitung), Gerbang Kayong and Rasau Jaya (West Kalimantan), Lamunti (Central Kalimantan), and Kobisonta (Maluku).
