REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEULABOH -- A group of Japanese students from Waseda University will visit and share experiences on disaster and risk reduction management in West Aceh District, Aceh Province.

The Chairman of the Aceh-Japan Friendship Forum (FAJ), Zulfriansyah, said on Monday that this was the second visit of the Japanese students to Meulaboh, which will take place from September 16 to 20.

He added that the visit was aimed at sharing experiences among the students, and to educate them to love and care for nature.

"The partnership between the students was established two years ago. In West Aceh, we are building an education center for disaster risk reduction as Aceh is an area prone to earthquakes and the tsunami," he said.

According to Zulfriansyah, the Japanese students will visit elementary schools in Seuneubok and West Aceh, as well as one elementary school in Banda Aceh.

"During their visit to West Aceh, the Japanese students will share their experience with the Indonesian students," he said.

Japan is one of the most experienced countries in the world when it comes to dealing with the earthquake and tsunami.

Therefore, this program is expected to make the community in Aceh, especially those living in West Aceh, better prepared to cope with natural disasters.

The community of Aceh-Japan Friendship Forum will build a special place for the Japanese students every time they visit Aceh.

"We will establish a Japanese language school in an integrated Islamic boarding school, which will be reserved for their next visit to Indonesia," Zulfriansyah said.
