Indonesia continues to help infrastructure development of Timor Leste

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said Indonesia has to continue to participate in infrastructure development of Timor Leste. Indonesia also keeps increasing mutually beneficial trading relationship.

"Will we improve investments of the two countries," Jokowi said during a press conference with the Prime Minister of Timor Leste, Rui de Araujo, in Jakarta, Wednesday (26/8).

Meanwhile, related to the border issue, Jokowi was targeting the issue to be completed by the end of this year. For the sea, the government will complete the north sea border first and then the south sea border.

"I think this will be resolved quickly," he added.

While Prime Minister of Timor Leste, Rui de Araujo said the two countries will enhance cooperation in economy, defense, education, and social culture.

"Not only strengthen the relationship of governments but also B2B (business to business)," said Araujo.

Araujo revealed that there are about 400 Indonesian private companies in Timor Leste and there are 5,000 Timor Leste students in Indonesia. He also appreciated the commitment of Indonesia in building human capacity in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure, and forestry.

"We signed two MoU in agriculture and forestry," said Araujo.

So far, there are few cross-border points that has been e given the ease of access to people who is living in the border region.

"In 2016, we waited for the revitalization of the border market. I will also solve the problem of land and sea borders," he explained.
