REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PONTIANAK -- President Joko Widodo ensured that some institutions will be merged. The merger aimed at efficiency of the institutions.

Jokowi said the government is currently evaluating hundreds of institutions. "There were 10 institutions evaluated, from 100 institutions,” he explained.

If the institutions that were evaluated, are proved to be beneficial for the country and the people, then it will be preserved. However, if the duties and the functions are overlapping with other institutions, then it could be merged into one.

"If it isn’t useful for the country, for the nation, for the people, it can be merged, because it involves budgets, and we all want to be efficient," he said.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said that merger will be done at institutions that has bad performance. "Currently, there were 10 institution that were disbanded,” said Luhut.

Even though the institutions were merged, the function will not be lost because function of merged institution could be given to other institutions in order to keep it running. "Its function is not dissolved, but is given to anyone," he added.
