VP: ASEAN requires a system to prevent money laundry

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Vice President, Jusuf Kalla (JK), said that all police organization in ASEAN requires a system to prevent money laundry.

“How is our efforts to reduce crime, such as corruption and money laundry, and how a country can provide information to other countries in order to prevent money laundry,” JK said in 35th ASEAN Police Conference, Tuesday (4/8).

The Vice President also asked ASEAN countries not to protect the transfer of illegal funds, because it break the laws of both countries.

"Therefore, we need a good system and cooperation to prevent crime. We need to support each other,” said JK.

Vice President explained that the 35th ASEAN Police Conference can support the establishment of international legal instruments in ASEAN. It  aims to combat transnational crimes such as drug smuggling, human trafficking, terrorism, corruption and money laundering in foreign countries.

"We do not want ASEAN is destructed due to internal conflict just like the Middle East,” JK added.

Besides that, the Vice President also wished the police officials in each country can exchange information. Kalla said the ASEAN has great economic potential that needs to be guarded by the police in each country.
