KPK sues Sherman for five years in prison

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The shareholders of PT Jakarta Futures Exchange (BBJ) Sherman Rana Krishna be charged five years imprisonment by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The prosecutor believed, Sherman proved legally and convincingly to have bribed the former head of the Futures Exchange Supervisory Board (Bappebti) Syahrul Raja Sempurnajaya amounted Rp 7 billion.

"Demanding that judges convict five years and a fine of Rp 250 million subsidiary six months in prison," said KPK’s prosecutor Haerudin in Corruption Court, Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 29.

Sherman was believed to bribe Syahrul to smooth out operational permits of PT Indokliring International. The business license was administered by Bappebti. In mid-2012, Syahrul requested part of 10 percent of the initial capital of clearinghouse amounted Rp 100 billion, which will be established Sherman.

The request submitted to the Director of BBJ on that time, Bihar Sakti Wibowo through the Legal Head of Bappebti, Alfons Samosir. Bihar then delivered it to Sherman. This request was discussed in board meetings with the directors of PT BBJ. After several meetings, then it agreed to give the money of Rp 7 billion to Syahrul.

The defendant also stated by the prosecutor as initiator to return the money of Rp 7 billion to PT Indokliring International. It was done to cover up so as if there was no giving money to Syahrul of PT Indokliring.

In a damning judgment, Sherman judged not to support the government's efforts to combat corruption. He was also regarded as the initiator that suggested Hasan Widjaja to meet Syahrul. Sherman also considered not regret and did not confess.

"There is no mitigating factor for the defendant Sherman Rana," said Haerudin.

Sherman Rana Krishna violated Article 5, paragraph (1) letter (a) Law (Law) Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 on Corruption Eradication in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code (KUHP) Number 1.

Previously, KPK’s prosecutor also demanded president director of PT Jakarta Futures Exchange (BBJ) Bihar Sakti Wibowo with criminal four years in prison. He was proven to bribe Syahrul Raja Sempurnajaya.

"Asking the defendant was sentenced to four years in prison minus time served, and a fine of Rp 200 million subsidiary three months in prison," said KPK’s prosecutor Haerudin when reading the charges at the Corruption Court in Jakarta on Monday, July 27.
