42 percent people affected by AIDS in Sukabumi are women

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI -- The number of women affected by HIV / AIDS in Sukabumi city is quite high. Data from AIDS Prevention Commission (KPA) of Sukabumi says the number of people affected by HIV / AIDS in 2014 reached as many as 101 people and 42 of them were female.

Chairman of KPA Sukabumi, Fahmi Achmad said, the majority of women affected by HIV / AIDS work as female sex workers (WPS) and housewives.

"The housewives currently being targeted HIV / AIDS, '' said Fahmi, who also served as Deputy Mayor of Sukabumi to ROL, on Tuesday, July 21.

Transmission of the disease could be from their spouse. Moreover, Fahmi said, in recent years HIV / AIDS most often caused by free sex. In fact, previously, the spread of this disease most through the use of drug needles.

Therefore, KPA along with other elements of society seeks to intensify the socialization of the danger of free sex to the public. In addition to involving the agency, he also took counselors and religious leaders.

According to him, religious leaders are very close to the people. They can provide knowledge about the dangers of free sex and drug use.

"Socialization is done so that people can get to know and understand what HIV and AIDS,'' said Fahmi.

In these activities, KPA gave knowledge about modes of transmission and prevention. In total, the number of people living with HIV / AIDS recorded by KPA was 827 cases. '' Meanwhile, throughout 2015, the KPA noted there were 68 new cases of HIV, '' he added.
