REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- North Sumatra's Regional Logistics Board (Bulog) has guaranteed that the four thousand tons of rice sourced from East Java is safe for consumption.

"The stock of rice from East Java that has mites is only small, so that it will not endanger the health of the consumers. After all, Bulog will conduct fumigation on the rice when it arrives at its warehouses," Spokesman of Bulog for North Sumatra office Rudi Adlyn noted here on Tuesday.

He remarked that the rice mites might have appeared due to damp conditions during its shipping from the East Java port to Medan's Belawan port.

With the four thousand tons of rice being sourced from East Java, the rice stock in North Sumatra is guaranteed and adequate for routine consumption.

Currently, the rice is being unloaded from the ship and will be transported to Bulog's warehouses, Rudi remarked.
