REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National police chief General Badrodin Haiti reassured here on Sunday that the police would be neutral in the local elections on December 9, 2015.
"This is not the first local elections. They have often been done. I have already instructed it. What else should I do?," he said.
He said if he later found a police officer who was not neutral he would take a firm action against him because his action violates the police's code of ethics.
Haiti also confirmed the police's readiness to secure the elections despite the fact that the budget for it was now still inadequate.
"There will be no cancellation. Budget shortage is no reason for canceling it," he said.
He said he was optimistic that shortage of the budget for elections security would be immediately covered.
"Based on the results of discussion yesterday I said that it is now still under process. We have reported that we are short of Rp700 billion but not the gap is already at Rp500," he said.
He said it would take time to get an increase because an agreement had to be secured from regional governments and regional legislative assemblies.
"Some have processed it while others have not. It needs an agreement from DPRD (legislative assembly) as well as regional heads," he said.
Police has set the budget for securing the elections at Rp1.07 trillion and so far they have secured Rp500 billion.
Haiti believed the process could be accelerated with good coordination between the home affairs ministry and regional governments.
