REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Marine corp commander Maj.Gen. Buyung Lalana said he had passed order to border guards to prevent violation by foreigners of the country's sovereignty in frontier areas.

"I ordered our soldiers in border areas to strictly guard our territory . We have to be firm in line with the regulation," Buyung said after a meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla here on Tuesday.

He said security in frontier areas especially in frontier islands would be improved and strengthened.

"We are consistent with that . We will team up with the navy to carry out sea patrol to chase away any foreign ships sailing in Indonesian waters," he said.

So far this year Malaysian ships have repeatedly entered the Indonesian waters violating the country's sovereignty, he said

On Sunday, a Malaysian civil helicopter even dared to land on a helipad in the Indonesian village of Ajikuning, on the Sebatik island, North Kalimantan.

The helicopter landed despite warning by an Indonesian solder from the border guard unit, commander of the military unit in Sebatik Captain Sulistyanto said on Monday.

The helicopter quickly took off flying to the Malaysian side of the border when the solder came closer.
