Priyo says BIN must have sophisticated intelligence apparatus

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former deputy chairman of the House of Representative (DPR) Priyo Budi Santoso suggested, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) in the future to be able to collaborate with Indonesia embassies (Kedubes) in all friendly countries.

The effort could be by placing intelligence team from BIN in the embassy institutional. He urges  there must be a BIN official who sits as a senior officer in each of the Indonesian Embassy.

He said the Embassy became the vulnerable region to the actions of intelligence from other countries.

"BIN must form a team in each of the embassies of friendly countries who became senior officials," said Priyo at the parliament complex, Senayan, on Wednesday, June 17.

The Golkar Party politician whom also formulated the Law of Intelligence said that the challenges for BIN in the future require that the head of BIN able to coordinate the intelligence field in every state agency that has this facility.

Not only collaborated with the intelligence in the military and police, but also must be able to coordinate with intelligence in the prosecutor's office, even the local government and the embassy.

Priyo said that in the last period, the Parliament had sought to give additional budget on BIN. Therefore, Indonesia would like to catch up with the world of intelligence from other major countries. In fact, said Priyo, BIN must have sophisticated intelligence apparatus, which is currently only able to be produced by four countries, the United States, Germany, Russia and Israel.

According to Priyo, the ability of equipment owned by BIN currently already advanced, but still less than four states producer of the world's most sophisticated intelligence equipments. In terms of the ability of human resources, Indonesia was ready to face cyber war; however, the equipment was still not.

Chairman of founder of the Indonesia Android Association, said the ability of Indonesia and China's hacker most feared by other countries. However, until today, Indonesian hackers has never considered by Indonesian government.

"We have the potential and the ability to face cyber war," said Priyo.
