Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road to be completed in five years

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMARINDA -- Construction of the 99-kilometer Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road would be carried out in five packages to be completed in five years.

Currently work in the project which started in 2011, is in the process of finishing the second, third and forth packages.

The first package 25 kilometer long between Balikpapan and Samboja was already completed in 2012.

East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak said the entire project will cost around Rp9.5 trillion with funds from the state and provincial budgets and investors.

Awang said the first and second packages are financed with funds from the government and the rest would be financed by investors.

The toll road would link the industrial areas in the district of Penajam Paser Utara, Kota Bontang, and the Maloy industrial estate in the Kutai Timur District.

It will facilitate transport of goods and passenger, the governor said.
