BJ Habibie pushes Golkar to join Pilkada

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Golkar Party from Aburizal Bakrie’s camp and Agung Laksono’s camp met with senior figures of the Golkar Party which is also the third Indonesian President, BJ Habibie, on Wednesday, May 27. During the meeting, both sides expressed agreement to jointly contest the simultaneous local elections (Pilkada) to be held in December.

Secretary General of the National Conference of the Golkar Party from Ancol’s congress, Zainudin Amali said, in the meeting, Habibie provide input so that the two camps could participate in the elections.

"Do not let the Golkar Party excluded from the elections, that's the point. On how to do it, it’s a technical matter, please talk about it. Please choose the way out. Golkar was one, there is no this camp, and that camp," said Amali mimicked the message from Habibie, in the central executive board of Golkar’s office, Slipi, West Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 27.

Amali said, the meeting also attended by Bali’s congress leadership, namely the Secretary General Idrus Marham, Chief Executive MS Hidayat and Vice Chairman Theo L Sambuaga. In a meeting that lasted for two hours, Amali said, all audiences listened to Habibie’s advises.

"We report also, there has been a meeting with Jusuf Kalla. Then, about how we formulate Golkar Party to join the elections," he said.

When asked whether Habibie wants a permanent reconciliation, Amali said, there has been no discussion related to it.

"It had not gone in there, he did not deliver it. But, he expressed to think that Golkar party could join the elections. So, we have not talked much to get there. All was well managed but, the interest of the elections should not be ignored," said Amali.
