BNN: Indonesia still in drug emergency

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) said Indonesia was still in the emergency phase of drug abuses. Based on the latest data from BNN, there were four million drug users in Indonesia.

Deputy prevention of BNN, Antar Sianturi said drug abusers were varies from different ages. It was recorded ranging from age 10 to 59 years have dealt drugs.

"So the process of education about the dangers of drugs needs to be encouraged," he said when met at the headquarters of Slank, Gang Potlot, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 27.

He explained, BNN in 2015 determined to rehabilitate 100 thousand drug users. Namely how to encourage drug users to report to the Institution of Report Obligation Recipient (IPWL) such as health centers or hospitals designated by the Ministry of Health. For the report, Antar said it would not incur criminal penalties.

Besides these ways, BNN also took the band Slank as anti-drug ambassador. Because, according to him, education through the art of music will be more easily accepted by society, because, music is a universal language.

"Plus, Slank is a symbol of drug addicts who could recover and keep working," he said.
