REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) has encouraged the inclusion of the history and archives of the Asian-African Conference (AAC) into records of the Memory of the World (MOW), LIPI Chief Iskandar Zulkarnain said.

"The inclusion of AAC archives and history into the MOW is important because the conference represents the new power of countries that were once colonies in Asia and Africa and offers an alternative new world order," Zulkarnain remarked.

He explained that the first AAC in 1955 discussed the five values of world peace, independence, freedom, welfare of mankind, and internationalism.

It is considered imperative to preserve such a legacy, along with the maintenance of other important archives of the world, he added.

Zulkarnain further noted that the UNESCO is overseeing the process of archiving the records of the AAC, together with some 70 archives from other countries.

Moreover, he pointed out that to include the AAC archives and history into records of the MOW, Indonesia needs to be supported by at least five other countries.

To date, Indonesia has had the support of India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Pakistan for this purpose.
