REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TIMIKA -- The administration of Mimika district, Papua province, has welcomed an Indian investor to build the Paumako seaport in East Mimika sub-district, Head of Mimika's Communication and Information Office John Rettob said here on Saturday (24/5).

He added that a representative of Jaldhi Marine Services, which is part of the Bothra Group, has surveyed the existing Paumako seaport.

The Indian company is well-reputed in seaport construction in India and Britain, he pointed out.

"The management has confirmed their readiness to build all the seaport facilities, including the dock, terminal, cargo seaport, fuel depot and warehousing facilities," Rettob affirmed, adding that Jaldhi Marine Services had agreed to develop all the facilities and infrastructure following international standards.

Furthermore, the loading and unloading process of cargo ships for 10,000 Giga Tons (GT) usually takes only some 30 minutes, he noted, adding that due to obstacles, the process at Paumako seaport takes days.

"Therefore, the investment in Paumako seaport is a very positive plan and program as one of the impacts will be a drop in the prices of basic commodities for the community," Rettob stated.

Moreover, he revealed that the acceleration of the construction of the Paumako seaport had been included in the national sea toll development program.
