REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Yuddy Chrisnandi has stated that Indonesia should focus on its capabilities to develop and improve the nation.
"We should focus on our capabilities and develop the nation based on its regional potential. Indonesia's development from the edge area is correct," Yuddy Chrisnandi said, after his inauguration as Professor of Industrial Economics and Public Policy at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences here on Saturday.
According to Chrisnandi, the development should be coordinated between local and central governments in a bid to discuss the economic potential by utilizing the nation's human resources and natural wealth.
"Java is no longer used for agriculture, there must be other places that have this potential, such as Papua. Then, agriculture and agro-industries should be focused in Papua, and Kalimantan for mining and minerals. So each region has its specific development," he said.
Further, he noted, the goal of economic development is to increase people's welfare, not to compete with developed countries.
"The purpose of economic development is to generate national income for improving people's welfare," he said.
The event was also attended by several ministers, among others, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno, Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara, Industry Minister Saleh Husin, Manpower Minister Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaeman, and Research, Technology and Higher Education Minister Muhammad Nasir.
Besides the minister, the inauguration was also attended by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Tri Sutrisno, Antara News Agency CEO Saiful Hadi, House Speaker Setya Novanto, Aburizal Bakrie, Akbar Tandjung, Fadli Zon, Wiranto, Agum Gumelar, Effendi Simbolon, including National Police Chief Badroddin Haiti.
