REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi handed over the mortal remains of Hery Listyawati, wife of Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan Burhan Muhammad, who died in a helicopter crash in Pakistan to her family in Yogyakarta.
Minister Marsudi, who was a close friend of the deceased Listyawati, expressed her deepest condolences and sympathies to the family, the ministry noted in a press statement, here on Thursday.
She received the remains from Pakistani Defense and Production Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, who was assigned by the Pakistani government to present the remains to the Indonesian government.
The Pakistani government awarded the "Sitara-e-Pakiestan" medal to late Listyawati for her contribution to fostering bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Pakistan.
The Indonesian minister expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government for providing the required facilities since the accident took place.
Listyawati was one of the victims killed in a helicopter crash in Pakistan recently.
Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan Muhammad, who was also one of the passengers aboard the ill-fated helicopter, survived the accident but suffered serious burn injuries.
The ambassador is now being treated at a hospital in Singapore.
Based on information received by Antara National News Agency, the party, invited by the Pakistani Foreign Affairs Ministry, left for northern Pakistan aboard a helicopter.
The party, which comprised 32 ambassadors, their spouses, and 25 others, were flown aboard four helicopters.
The helicopter was flying 17 passengers comprising 11 foreigners, including Indonesian Ambassador Muhammad and his wife Listyawati, and 6 Pakistani citizens.
The four people reportedly killed in the crash were: the wife of the Indonesian ambassador, the wife of the Malaysian ambassador to Pakistan, the Filipino ambassador, and the Norwegian ambassador.
