REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Jokowi revealed a little content of his conversation with Gerindra Party Chairman and former competitor in the 2014 presidential election (Pilpres), Prabowo.
It was announced while Jokowi giving a speech in the Inaugural event of central executive board (DPP) of National Mandate Party (PAN) 2015-2020 periods and the opening of PAN National Working Meeting (Rakernas) 2015 at Balai Sudirman, South Jakarta, on Wednesday night, May 6.
Jokowi said, in a meeting with the chairman of Gerindra on Bogor Palace some time ago, he was asked about the possibility of Prabowo become a presidential candidate again. "I asked, 'Sir, on 2019 do you want to become candidate again? I always ask outspoken like that," said Jokowi.
Former Jakarta governor was also continuing his story about the response of Prabowo at that time. "Mr Prabowo replied, 'then if I go again it means we will fight again, Mr. Jokowi'," he said and immediately greeted by boisterous laughter and applause from the invitees, including Prabowo himself.
In the speech, Jokowi also praised the presence of the chairman and leader of the Great Indonesian Coalition political parties (KIH) and the Red and White Coalition (KMP). "It's the name of togetherness, harmony, unity," said Jokowi.
Jokowi said harmonization and unity is a very important element in building a country. Indonesia, he said, should see a much greater challenge than continue to internal disputes in their own country. According to Jokowi, without political stability and security, ndonesia could not compete with other countries.
"Now that should be highlighted is the competition between countries. If we are still fighting each other in our country, how we deal with the challenges from outside. Beside, our challenges are getting heavy, especially in the economic field," he said.
Jokowi added, the various elements of the nation must continue to strengthen togetherness and unity so that existing problems can be faced together. He also warned political parties not to remain trapped in the chaos.
"If you want to fight again in 2019 later, or on the simultaneously local election (Pilkada). But after that, we are working again for the nation, the state, and the people," said Jokowi.
