REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo received a delegation of leaders of multinational companies grouped in the US-ASEAN Business Council at his office here on Tuesday (5/5).

Marc Mealy, the chief of the US delegation, stated that the meeting was part of a two-day visit in the framework of exploring cooperation possibilities between Southeast Asia and the Asia Pacific.

"The visit today is aimed at exploring areas of business cooperation with Indonesian businessmen and exchanging views," Mealy noted.

Mealy affirmed that the meeting offered an opportunity to exchange perspectives and ideas between the two countries.

Infrastructure and healthcare are the key potential areas for cooperation. Moreover, the implementation of a one-stop service policy by the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and the revocation of fuel subsidy is testament to the Indonesian government's seriousness to reform its bureaucracy.

"Although the economies of most countries are currently declining, investment opportunities in Indonesia are not closed," Mealy said.

The meeting was attended by several cabinet ministers including Chief Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil, Industry Minister Saleh Husin, Head of BKPM Franky Sibarani, and Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto.

The business leaders were accompanied by US Ambassador to Indonesia Robert Blake, Vice President for Policy at the US-ASEAN Business Council Marc Mealy, and Director of the US-ASEAN Business Council Mads Stockwell.
