Indonesia hosting ISPRO 2015

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia is currently hosting the International Science Project Olympiad (ISPRO) on May 3-9, 2015, a senior high school level (SMA) competition for research, stated an official.

"This is the third year for Indonesia to host ISPRO, which is being participated by outstanding students from 31 countries to compete in research in the fields of physics, biology, chemistry, technology, and environment," Culture and Education Ministry's Director General for Secondary Education Achmad Jazidie noted here on Monday (4/5).

He affirmed that the competition aims to hone the research culture among young scientists.

"Through the ISPRO 2015, we want the participating students to gain awareness on global action in calling for the protection of planet earth, sustainable utilization of natural resources, and environmentally-friendly lifestyle," he remarked.

Achmad stated that Indonesia has submitted 10 research papers including on health, agriculture, electronics, and biology that were selected by the Indonesia Students' Research Olympiad (OPSI) and Indonesian Science Project Olympiad (ISPO) in the ISPRO 2015 competition.

The 31 countries participating in the ISPRO 2015 include Afghanistan, Angola, Australia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Croatia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Senegal, Serbia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, and Uganda.

"We want to know more about the life and culture in Indonesia," Jeton, a participant from Kosovo, noted.

Based on data from the Directorate General of Education and Culture, the number of participants this year is higher than last year's event, which was only attended by representatives from 27 countries.

Indonesian delegate Deni expressed pride and joy to be able to participate in the international event.

"I am very happy as I can meet my peers from other parts of the world, and we are optimistic that we will perform well in the event," he affirmed.
