REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KLATEN -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said he would cancel the license of private hospitals refusing to treat patients holding the Indonesian Health Card (KIS). KIS could be used by poor members of the community for hospital treatment to be paid by the government.

"Currently not all hospitals, only government owned hospitals accepting KIS. I will force all to accept KIS," Jokowi said here on Monday, May 4.

The president distributed KIS, Indonesian Smart Card (KIP) and Prosperous Family Card (KKS) to community leaders in the village of Temuwangi, regency of Klaten, Central Java.

He said, there should be no sick members of the community rejected access to medical treatment. The president, however, said that patients should first seek treatment at public health center (Puskesmas), which would decide if the patient would need serious treatment at hospital.

"Minor disease like flue may not need to go to hospitals. The patient should be treated at Puskemas," he said.
