President Joko Widodo to visit North Maluku

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TERNATE -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) plans to visit the eastern province of North Maluku on May 7 to dedicate a number of projects and distribute health service insurance cards KIH, a local official said here on Sunday.

Salmin Janidi, the head of public relations if the North Maluku administration, said the regional governments and other related parties have made preparations to make the first visit by President Jokowi to the region successful.

He said President Jokowi during a day visit in Ternate, would also visit Sofifi, the capital of the province, to attend distribution of KIH and Indonesia Welfare Card (KIS) by the ministry of social affairs and launched the construction of a grand mosque in the city.

He said the regional administration also hoped President Jokowi during the visit could see closely the development of Kuabang airport in the district of North Halmahera, which will be the alternative airport in case the Babullah airport in Ternate is closed due to Mount Gamalama eruption.

Salmin said President Jokowi's visit is also connected with the dedication of a steam-powered electricity plant in Tidore islands where the President would also receive a traditional title from the Tidore Sultanate.

He said all districts and cities in the region would take the opportunity to show their potentials to the President.

Even, Salmin said, the potential of the region's gem stones would be promoted in the form of souvenirs that would be given to the President and members of his delegation.
