REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- While closing the Asian-African Summit on Thursday, President Joko Widodo said that April 24 had been adopted as the Asia-Africa Day.

"I am happy with the fact that the summit agreed to adopt April 24 as the Asia-Africa Day and Bandung as the Asia-Africa Solidarity Capital City," Jokowi, as the president is popularly called, stated at the Plenary Hall of the Jakarta Convention Center here on Thursday (23/4).

The summit also agreed to build an Asia-Africa Study Center in Indonesia.

The Asia-Africa Summit produced three important documents---the Bandung Message 2015, the Declaration on the Reinforcement of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP), and the Declaration on Palestinian Independence.

The Bandung Message contains visions of Asian and African countries regarding targets they wish to achieve. It also contains the declaration on Bandung as a city of human rights.

Furthermore, the document on the reinforcement of the NAASP contains the implementation framework and is a follow-up of the Bandung Message 2015.

The declaration on Palestine, however, contains eight points regarding the support extended to Palestine, the struggle of Palestinians, the two-state solution, and the condemnation of Israel and its attack on Palestine.

It also encourages the reconstruction of Gaza, the realization of Palestine as a member of the United Nations, and calls for Asian and African countries that have yet to recognize Palestine to do so.
