REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Ministry of Informatics and Communication has blocked 19 websites it considers radical, upon the request of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT).

"We asked Internet service providers to block the websites this morning upon the request of the BNPT. The sites were analyzed by the agency and considered to be spreading radicalism. So we blocked them after we were asked to," a spokesman for the ministry, Ismail Cawidu, said here on Monday (30/3).

Initially, he added, there were 26 sites that the BNPT had requested to be blocked, but only 19 were confirmed later because "two of them were duplicates, four others disappeared, and one was taken down."

According to Cawidu, his office will continue to block websites carrying negative content.

He has urged members of the community to report to his office any similar sites they discover so they can be dealt with immediately.

In its letter number 149/K.BNPT/3/2015, the BNPT requested for the closure of 19 websites it believed promoted radicalism and sympathizers of radicalism.
