Govt to repair damaged roads ahead of AAC

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Jakarta Road Agency is making efforts to fix some damaged roads and potholes along the city's protocol roads in preparation for the Asian-African Conference to be held in Jakarta, on April 19-23.

"Four main roads are currently being repaired: Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Gatot Subroto, and Jalan HR Rasuna Said," the agency's road maintenance department head, Suko Wibowo, stated here on Monday (30/3).

According to Wibowo, the repair work on the four protocol roads has being going on for the past two weeks. The road agency has set a target to complete the maintenance work by April 10.

"The Jakarta road agency had assigned two task force units to carry out the maintenance, South Jakarta and Central Jakarta road agency had also formed two task force units each," Wibowo revealed.

Moreover, he remarked that the Jakarta road agency has coordinated with PT Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) for the road maintenance work at Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and Jalan MH Thamrin due to the ongoing development work related to the MRT project being carried out on both roads.

"So far, the road maintenance work in Jalan Merdeka Utara and Banteng Square has been completed," Wibowo stated.

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia will host the Asia-Africa Conference 2015 to mark the 60th commemoration of the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) and the 10th anniversary of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership in Jakarta and Bandung, on April 22-24.

Some 109 Asian and African countries along with 17 observer countries and 25 international organizations will be invited.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir recently remarked that some 20 events have been planned to enliven the AAC commemoration.

Among the events outlined for the AAC are the Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) on April 19 and the Ministerial Meeting (MM) on April 20.

On April 21, the organizing committee will hold the Asia-Africa Business Conference on April 22-23.

Several heads of states will participate in the Historical Walk event to be held on April 24 in Bandung, the spokesman remarked.
