Foreign Ministry organizes int'l training on cattle farming

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has just organized an international training program in sustainable cattle farming through artificial insemination to assist Cambodia, Laos and Timor Leste in carrying out their national development.

The training program which was held in Jakarta and Malang from March 17 to 28 was part of the Indonesian government's efforts to develop South-South and Triangular cooperation to support the creation of ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, the Foreign Ministry said in a press statement released on Sunday.

The training brought together seven participants from Cambodia, Laos and Timor Leste and five local participants from East Java, Central Java, Lampung, North Sumatra and South Kalimantan provinces. The training was aimed at tapping cooperation potentials, improving the participants' knowledge of and serving as a means to share experiences in sustainable cattle farming.

The training was also part of efforts to realize the Indonesian government's support for the creation of AEC particularly to narrow a development gap between Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar and other ASEAN member states.

Foreign Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi opened the training on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of South-South Cooperation Forum on Tuesday (March 17).

During the training, the participants were taught about sustainable husbandry policy, breeding strategy and artificial insemination followed by interactive discussions and field practices regarding artificial insemination and artificial insemination supply chain management.

While closing the training in Malang, East Java, Siti Nugraha Mauludiah, director of the ministry's technical cooperation, expressed hope that participants could apply the knowledge obtained during the training in their respective country.
