REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has officially opened its representative office in Jakarta, to intensify potential cooperation and economic partnership in Southeast Asian region.

"Through key cooperation with Indonesia, the opening of new office can become a foundation for more global partnership with the most dynamic region in the world," OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria said here, Wednesday.

The Jakarta-based representative office is an OECD regional office for Southeast Asian region. It is the fifth largest regional office, outside the OECD headquarters in France. The other four largest OECD representative offices are located in Germany, Mexico, Japan, and the United States.

Indonesian Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said although the regional office is based in Jakarta, other southeast Asian countries would get partnership benefits from the presence of OECD representative office in Indonesia.

"The OECD office does not only benefit Indonesia, but also the southeast Asian region as a whole," he said.

Angel Gurria was in Indonesia to attend the opening of the OECD representative office and to officially release the latest report of OECD economic survey results and the results of OECD study on education in Indonesia.
