REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian and Malaysian governments have yet to make a decision regarding cooperation in the field of automobile production, stated Oesman Sapta Odang, the deputy speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR).
"The cooperation for the development of a national car is between company to company and not between government to government," Oesman remarked on the sidelines of a meeting with Malaysian Infrastructure Development and Communication Minister Dato Seri Michael Manyin Anak Jawong here on Wednesday.
Malaysian Minister Dato Seri along with his entourage visited the MPR on Wednesday.
According to Oesman, the cooperation for the production of the national car is still being considered by the government.
The government may give the go-ahead for the production of the national car if the cooperation has a favorable impact on the Indonesian people.
"But certainly, the Indonesian government has not made a decision," he said.
Earlier, Indonesia and Malaysia had agreed to settle their border problems, so that the relations between the two countries are not disrupted in the future.
"We will solve the border problems as soon as possible otherwise, they will disrupt our relations with Malaysia," President Joko Widodo informed reporters after attending a get-together with Indonesian citizens in Malaysia at the Indonesian Embassy here on Friday evening.
The president stated that the border problems were among the important issues discussed with the Malaysian government during his two-day visit to the neighboring country.
At the bilateral meeting, both nations also agreed to enhance cooperation in the fields of investment and trade, he revealed.
"Cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia in the field of investment and trade will be strengthened," he stressed.
