REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A former lawmaker of the People's Conscience (Hanura) Party failed to meet the summons of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Thursday.

Susaningtyas N. H. Kertopati had been summoned by the KPK on Thursday as part of efforts to investigate the alleged case of corruption that involves national police chief candidate Commissioner General Budi Gunawan (BG).

"She will be questioned in the case against BG," spokesman for the KPK Priharsa Nugraha said here on Thursday.

In a short text message sent later in the day, Kertopati explained that she could not fulfill the summons because she was ill.

"I could not show up because I was suffering from diarrhea," she stated.

Kertopati was a member of the Hanura Party faction of the House of Representatives (DPR) from 2009 to 2014. She was part of Commission I of the parliament, which oversees defense, foreign affairs and communication and information. She was also assigned to the Commission III of the DPR, which deals with law.

Furthermore, the KPK spokesperson revealed that the anti-corruption body was set to question housewife Sintawati Soedarno Hendroto and civil servant Tossin Hidayat in the case, as well.

Earlier, the KPK was supposed to question 10 witnesses in the alleged graft case, but only Inspector General (ret) Syahtria Sitepu met the summons on January 19.

The KPK will bring in the witnesses by force for questioning if they do not fulfill the summons twice.

Moreover, Deputy Chairman of the KPK Bambang Widjojanto had emphasized that if the witnesses did not meet the second summons, the KPK would send copies of the third summons to President Joko Widodo and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno.

The police and the KPK have been at loggerheads with each other since the anti-graft body named national police chief candidate Commissioner Genera Budi Gunawan a suspect over a corruption case. This made President Joko Widodo postpone his inauguration pending the settlement of his case, despite the fact that his candidacy had been approved by the parliament.

The police later named Bambang Widjojanto a suspect over a regional election dispute case in 2010 when he was a lawyer.
