REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo will adopt the best policy to resolve the tensions between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the National Police (Polri), Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reforms Yuddy Chrisnandi said.

"The president will adopt the best policy (regarding the issue) in the near future. What he opts to do may not satisfy all those involved, but if it is in the best interests of the public at large, the president will, of course, do it," the minister stated.

Chrisnandi made the remarks during a discussion on the 100 days of the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla government, organized by the Intellectual Study Forum for Indonesia of the University of Indonesia, here on Thursday.

He added that it was not easy for Jokowi, as the president is popularly called, to take a stand on the ongoing problems between the KPK and the Polri, amid strong political pressure and processes that involve different interests.

"The president may appear to be weak with regard to the KPK-Polri problem, but his strength is reflected in the fact that he listens to opinions from various sides," he remarked.

Chirsnandi is convinced that the KPK and the Polri being at loggerheads with each other is only an ethics-related problem. If the two institutions are able to restrain themselves, it will not culminate into a significant conflict.

Furthermore, Vice President Jusuf Kalla had pointed out that he believes the conflict between the anti-graft body and the national police does not affect the economy and investment climate in Indonesia.

"I see that the problem between the KPK and the Polri is restricted to a limited circle. It neither concerns the entire nation, nor does it affect the industry. So I am sure investments will still continue," Kalla affirmed while giving a keynote speech at a seminar on Indonesian Economic and Market Outlook 2015 here on Wednesday (January 28).

Present at the seminar were Governor of Bank Indonesia Agus Martowardojo and Chief of the Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Franky Sibarani, among others.

Kalla admitted that the authorities of law enforcement agencies often overlap and intersect, which confuses the public.

"Hopefully, the conflict between the KPK and the Polri will soon be settled," the vice president noted.

The KPK is currently handling an alleged case of corruption that involves Commissioner General Budi Gunawan, whom the anti-graft body named as a suspect.

The commission named him a suspect after President Jokowi nominated him as the sole candidate for the post of the national police chief.

Moreover, the Crime Investigation Department (Bareskrim) of the National Police Headquarters arrested Deputy Chairman of the KPK Bambang Widjojanto.

Bareskrim named Widjojanto as a suspect in a 2010 regional election dispute case, wherein he has been accused of prompting a witness to give false testimony at the Constitutional Court during a session on the dispute in Kotawaringin Barat, Central Kalimantan, when he was still a lawyer.
