REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANGERANG -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was told not to fear losing popularity in carrying out his commitment for the interest of the people.

"Jokowi is already a president and would naturally always becomes the target of political spotlight," Iman Kusnandar, the rector of the Syekh Yusuf Islamic University of Tangerang said.

Jokowi should never fear losing his popularity if he has to adopt a policy that goes against the prevailing political affairs for the sake of the people interest, Iman said here on Thursday.

Political opposition has always come as a challenge to be faced by a leader that comes from a political party, he said.

He cited the president has moved "very" fast in his operational techniques but is not followed with similarly fast administrative techniques by his subordinates.

"How laudable is the president's decisions it is a setback and become a legal problem if failed in implementation because of administration system," he said.

He, therefore, asked the central government to control the distribution of budget fund in the regions to ensure that the budget fund is well spent.

He said the government should be more careful in making a decision citing the controversial decision to raise the prices of subsidized oil fuels late last year.

The prices, after rising , could not easily decline even if the fuel prices have been reduced, he said.
