REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The independent team formed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to defuse the tensions between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and National Police (Polri) should lay emphasis on collecting data and facts, according to a legislator.

"The independent team is expected to behave proportionally while handing the data and facts and be clear while formulating inputs or making recommendations to the president," House of Representatives' Commission III member Bambang Soesatyo stated in his Blackberry message on Thursday.

He noted that all members of the team should be able to refrain from making tendentious and partial statements that could further aggravate the situation.

He pointed out that varying public opinions pertaining to Commissioner General Budi Gunawan being named a suspect in an alleged corruption case and the arrest of KPK Deputy Chairman Bambang Wijoyanto were largely swayed by interest groups.

"Therefore, the independent team should remain consistent and independent in order not to be dragged down by the influence of interest groups," he emphasized.

Bambang remarked that amid the chaos that plagued the KPK and Polri, the essence of the president's policy is to uphold the honor and prestige of the two institutions.
