Djarot: Jakarta is not safe

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice Governor of Jakarta, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, admitted that Jakarta was not a safe city. The statement is following the recent report from The Economist Intelligence Unit.

The report, entitled EIU Safe Cities Index 2015, says that Jakarta sits at the bottom of the list of 50 cities. The index is compiled by assessing urban safety and security among 50 cities in five continents.

"Jakarta it is not safe. That is why we cooperate with police to tackle crime," Djarot Saiful Hidayat said on Wednesday, January 28.

Director of General Crime at Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters, Herry Heryawan, said crime had been rising in the last two months. However, he ensured that Jakarta was still a safe place to live.

He said that police would consistently protect people and give them safe. "If we can cooperate, Jakarta will be the safest city," he said.
