REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has sent a letter to President Joko Widodo in connection with the allegations of the criminalization of anti-graft agency KPK's leadership.

"Yesterday, the Komnas HAM leadership sent a letter to the President regarding the allegations," Komnas HAM commissioner Nur Kholis said here on Tuesday(27/1).

According to him, Komnas HAM has remarked that the state has not taken any concrete step to settle the conflicts between KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) and police.

"Until today, according to Komnas HAM, no concrete action has been taken by the state with regard to the case," he said.

Hence, Komnas HAM believes the government needs to be given inputs, he added.

"The head of state needs inputs from various sources, including Komnas HAM, to help him settle all the problems," he observed.

He hoped that based on the inputs, President Joko Widodo as head of state will adopt a policy with human rights dimensions.

Nur Kholis pointed out it was the responsibility of the state to create a sense of security in KPK' leadership and ranks.

He emphasized the state must also be strong to protect institutions it has established.

"According to our monitoring and observation, KPK was established based on a mandate for reform. However, until now, the state's responsibility has yet to be seen.

The state should not act like that. It must be strong and protect institutions it has established," he explained.

Komnas HAM has set up a special team to investigate the alleged criminalization of KPK Chiefs. The team consists of 22 members, including eight Komnas HAM commissioners.

Police recently named KPK Commissioner Bambang Widjojanto in a 2010 district election dispute case for allegedly prompting a witness to give false testimony, while he was still a lawyer, in a court.

Meanwhile, more KPK commissioners have been reported to police for their involvement in past cases.

Earlier, KPK had named national police chief candidate Commissioner General Budi Gunawan suspect in a corruption case.
