REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG -- The government plans to build six new reservoir to fullfill raw water demands in province of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"I get complaints from regents about the (existing) reservoir. We will build additional six more reservoirs," President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said on Saturday, also underlining the high demands on drinking water and water for agriculture. "The need for raw water in East Nusa Tenggara is high. So we will concentrate on (building) the reservoirs," the head of state affirmed.

In addition to taking the availability of water into consideration, Jokowi also highlighted the need for protecting the public against human trafficking.

"I have ordered the police chief to eliminate human trafficking. Anyone involved in the crime must be investigated thoroughly. Perpetrators cannot be tolerated," he emphasized.

The president was accompanied by First Lady Iriana in his working visit to NTT, where they have been since Friday (December 19) night. Earlier, the Indonesian president had noted that Jakarta's demand for 160 tons of beef per day would be purchased from supplies in NTT, which has ample stocks.

"We would rather 'import' (beef) from East Nusa Tenggara than from foreign countries, which would be more expensive. It seems that we are ignoring domestic potential and the empowerment of local breeders," he remarked after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Saturday between Jakarta and East Nusa Tenggara regarding the animal husbandry sector. The memorandum also deals with fisheries and marine resources of Central Java and East Nusa Tenggara.

Based on surveys and reports from Governor of East Nusa Tenggara Frans Lebu Raya, the president pointed out that livestock potentials of East Nusa Tenggara were sufficient to meet the nation's needs, especially those of Jakarta.
