REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo said museums as well as interactive and communicative learning centers will simplify history for the people and help them understand it better.

"I am very proud as our children can quickly learn the nation's history from period to period," the President said after inaugurating the Constitutional History Center at the Constitutional Court here on Friday (19/12).

The President remarked that the facility will help people understand the history of the Indonesian Constitution.

"I appreciate the chief justice of the Constitutional Court for presenting its history here. It is good for kids as they can learn the nation's history," he stated.

Meanwhile, chief justice of the Constitutional Court Hamdan Zoelva said learning and encouraging public awareness was important for the Constitution.

"It is necessary to increase public awareness of the Constitution. The Constitutional Court is the biological child of reformation," he pointed out.

He added that, if the public does not have the knowledge, understanding and awareness of the Constitution, the Constitutional Court cannot work optimally.

Secretary General of the Constitutional Court Janedjri M Gaffar in his report described the Constitution History Centre as an effort to understand and appreciate the value of the history of the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.

The center, with 1,462 square meters, occupies the fifth and sixth floors of the Constitutional Court.

The center showcases the journey of the Constitution since Independence until the formation of the Constitutional Court through a decision for guarding the 1945 Constitution (UUD 1945).

"The visual data of historical events are easy to understand and audiovisual displays are interesting and innovative," Janedjri observed.

The historic center, powered by multimedia and latest information technology, is divided into eight zones, including the pre-independence zone, independence zone, 1945 constitution zone, constitution of RIS zone, 1950 constitution zone, revised 1945 constitution zone, and the zone of the Constitutional Court.

"The construction, financed by the 2013 and 2014 state budgets, amounted to Rp24 billion. The construction was carried out in a transparent manner," he noted.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by former Vice-President Try Soetrisno, chief justice of the Constitutional Court Hamdan Zoelva, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno, State Secretary Pratikno, and other officials.
