REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- The immigration office in Ambon, Maluku province, will soon repatriate some 50 foreigners who were recently taken into custody by Indonesian authorities in Arafura and Merauke waters.

Ambon immigration office spokesman Nanang Koesdarjanto noted here on Friday (19/12) that the arrested foreigners arrived here on Tuesday and will shortly be repatriated to their countries of origin.

"Some 50 of the 116 foreigners aboard eight fishing boats were arrested when they were caught conducting illegal fishing in Arafura waters in Maluku and Merauke waters in Papua," Koesdarjanto remarked.

He explained that after being arrested, the 50 foreigners were handed over to the Ambon immigration office by the Indonesian Navy officers on Thursday.

"Their nationalities remain unclear, but we will soon find it to simplify the repatriation process," he added.
