REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Johan Budi stressed that former Vice-President Boediono has not been named suspect in an alleged corruption case.

It has been alleged that Boediono granted short-term financing facility to Bank Century and listed it as a failed bank even when it was not eligible for it.

"The news about a statement that Boediono has been named suspect in the Century case is not true. I have met Pandu. The statement attributed to Pandu in the news is incorrect. It is not true that Boediono is a suspect in the Century case," Johan Budi said here on Friday (5/12).

Earlier, KPK deputy chairman Adnan Pandu Praja remarked that former vice-president Boediono has been named a suspect in the 2008 Bank Century bailout scandal.

"In ten years, the KPK has taken on 435 cases. They involved ministers, governors, district heads, mayors, and diplomats. And now we have named Boediono, a former vice-president, suspect. We also name former Constitutional Court chief justice Akil Mochtar a suspect," he stated.

Boediono, as the governor of Bank Indonesia in 2008, approved a loan of Rp 689.3 billion and paved the way for Bank Century to receive a temporary capital injection of Rp 6.7 trillion from the Deposit Insurance Agency. He has been accused of approving the bailout despite knowing that Century did not qualify for the help.
