REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has called on the members of Indonesian Civil Servants Corps (Korpri) to serve the public with all their hearts and for the glory and welfare of the nation and its people.

"As an organization for civil servants, Korpri should set an example for better change," the President said while attending a ceremony to mark the 43rd anniversary of Korpri at Monas Square here on Monday (21/1).

Jokowi noted that the members of Korpri should shed their upper-class mentality because the time has come for bureaucracy to serve the public.

He also urged the Korpri members to become a unifying force by leaving behind regional and sectarian egos.

"The members of Korpri must leave behind the upper-class mentality and become bureaucrats who are ready to offer fast, right, reasonable, and easy services," the President remarked.

Further, he stated, the Korpri members should understand their duties and functions and ensure a clean and competent bureaucracy to serve the people better.

The Indonesian Civil Servant Corps is an organization of civil servants whose positions and activities must correspond with government programs and it must play active roles to improve public service and welfare in accordance with to vision and mission.

President Jokowi added that the members of Korpri must be able to respect their professional code of ethics and constantly improve their performances.

"Strengthen your synergy to accelerate the achievement of development targets," he exhorted.

At the ceremony attended by some 15,000 civil servants in blue batik Korpri uniforms, a banner reading "Let us make the national movement for civil servants' mentality revolution successful" was raised.

The Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla government has launched a mental revolution campaign to improve nationhood and statehood. The campaign also includes civil servants.
