REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said said the Committee for Oil and Gas Management Reform will make a recommendation on the fate of Energy Trading Limited (Petral) next month.

"One month from now the committee would give a recommendation on Petral," Said explained in a working meeting with the Commisison II of the Regional Representative Council (DPD)  on Wednesday.

The government has considered dissolving the trading subsidiary of state energy company Pertamina. It has been widely believed to have fallen under the control of oil mafia. Said said if the committee recommended that Petral could still be used it would be allowed to resume operation.

"Otherwise it would be left to Pertamina to be restudied," he said.

He said the authority over Petral lied in the hands of the ministry of state enterprises, but energy policy was decided by the ministry. Said also said recommendation of the committee would be submitted not only to the  ministry but also the other ministries and the president.

"Every month in the next six months the committee would submit report or recommendation. Anything that could be done would be done," he said.

He said the committee would also discuss the BBM cost with Pertamina and the Oil and Gas Directorate General of the Ministry.

The committee is chaired by economist Faisal Basri, with Naryanto Wagimin (acting Oil and Gas Director General) as deputy chairman and Susyanto (head of the Law Bureau of the  Ministry) as the secretary. Among its members include Teten Masduki, former chairman of the Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) and Chandra Hamzah former deputy chairman of the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK).
