Ahok to build Jakarta by 'imitating' Singapore

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or known as Ahok will copy the concept of Singapore to build Indonesia's capital city. He considers Singapore as having the similar problems with Jakarta. However, Singapore can successfully tackle the problems.

"If we want to build a city, Singapore is an easy example. The city already has experience," Ahok said after meeting with Singapore's Minister of Trade and Industry Teo Ser Luck on Tuesday, November 25.

Ahok is interested in how Singapore rules floor area ratio. It is mandatory for all residents of Singapore to give in a part of their land for public transportation. As compensation, the residents can build their house higher than other. "We will also higher floor area ratio," he said.

The meeting between Ahok and Teo Ser Luck discuss on cooperation in industry, transportation and other developments. Ahok said he would follow up the meeting to Jakarta Chamber of Commerce.
