President Jokowi arrives in Beijing for APEC Summit

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING - Indonesia's President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo arrived in Beijing on Saturday afternoon to attend the 22nd Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) summit slated for November 10-11.

The President and his entourage aboard the presidential plane landed at Capital International Airport in Beijing and were welcomed by Indonesian ambassador to China and Mongolia, Soegeng Rahardjo, and Chinese government representatives. President Jokowi's entourage included First Lady Iriana, chief economic minister Sofyan Djalil, cabinet secretary Andi Widjajanto, deputy chairperson of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) GKR Hemas and daughter Kahiyang Ayu.

After a brief rest, President Jokowi and the entourage proceeded to the hotel where they would stay before paying a courtesy call to Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday. Indonesia's president is also scheduled to meet with US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe.

Besides introducing himself as the new president of Indonesia, President Jokowi would discuss the state of Indonesia's relations with various countries and ways to enhance cooperation with them.

Indonesia has been a strategic partner of China, the US and Russia. President Jokowi will be attending the 22nd APEC Summit along with 20 other leaders. At the summit Jokowi would speak about regional architecture and maritime axis.

The APEC Summit 2014 was preceded by a meeting of the senior officials (CSOM) on November 5-6, followed by the 26th APEC economies' ministerial meeting on November 7-8.

This week, an APEC CEO Summit was attended by corporate leaders from 21 APEC economies and APEC Business Advisory Council. Besides the meetings, a visit to the industrial zone in Tianjin has also been arranged.
