REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his family will also follow the "mudik" tradition by homebound travelling to their hometown after the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, like most other residents of Jakarta.

"I will go home to Solo (Central Java) on the third day of Eid al Fitr," said Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, on Thursday.

The Jakarta governor made the statement before beginning his visits to five areas in the capital city of Jakarta to meet with the residents there. "I have the obligation to visit my parents in my kampong (village), just the same way as other people who go to their hometowns," Jokowi explained.

When asked about his preferred place for celebrating Eid al Fitr holidays, the governor said with a smile that he liked both Jakarta and Solo. "I have relatives in Solo and I am a resident of Jakarta," Jokowi pointed out.

The only difference was, he noted, Eid al Fitr celebrations in Jakarta took place in a metropolitan atmosphere.
