REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA - A British diplomat reaffirmed that his country still recognized Papua as part of Republic of Indonesia.
"We are here this time on a working visit to the Cendrawasih Regional Military Command," Millie Mc Devitt, Second Secretary in Political Section of the British Embassy, said in a news release issued on Wednesday.
During the visit, British delegation were received by Commander of Military Cendrawasih, Maj Gen Christian Zebua and his staff. Zebua admitted that stability in Papua was conducive.
"There is a small group (of local people) having different perception of independence, but we do not see them as enemies. They are compatriots who happen to have different view of democracy," he said.
Earlier, Papua Merdeka or Free Papuan opened a representative office in Oxford on April 28. The ceremony was attended by Mayor of Oxford Mohammed Niaz Abbasi, member of British Parlement Andrew Smith and former Mayor of Oxford Elise Benjamin. Indonesia sent a protests note since the Free Papua Movement is considered as separatist movement.
