REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The current increasing price of food commodity in Indonesia is only temporary as the consumption of food is rising on the early of Ramadhan, Bank Indonesia says.

"This is euphoria during Ramadhan. People tend to consume more foods," the Head of Public Relation in Bank Indonesia, Difi A Johansyah, said on Tuesday.

Two commodities with spiking price on the second week of July are chicken in around 4.82 percent and beef in around 2.7 percent. "Other commodities such as eggs, instant noodles, rice, and oil also increase," he said.

Spatially, he said, the inflation increasing sharply in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua, and Sumatra. "In Kalimantan, the price of fish and vegetable is also increasing because the limited supply of fuel for fisherman and weather," he said.

While in Sumatera, the increasing price is triggered by the problem in distribution in Merak - Bakauheni. "Also, three commodities affect the local inflation. They are wheat, corn, and soy," he said.

But, those commodities do not give significant impact towards the overall inflation. Based on Indonesian Statistics Agency, the inflation rate on July 2011 was 0.67 percent, while in July 2010 was 1.57 percent. Bank Indonesia assesses the national inflation can be maintained in 4.5 percent in 2012.
