Putin calls SBY on Sukhoi accident

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, called his counterpart, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Thursday at 10.30 pm. During the talk Putin offered his condolences regarding to the accident of Sukhoi in Salak Mountain, West Java, on Wednesday evening.

A presidential staff for foreign affairs, Teuku Faizasyah, explained that it was Putin who initiated the talk and he also discussed his requests, referring to the accident. "Firstly, President Putin expected to work hand on hand with Indonesia in forensic identification of the Sukhoi victims since Russia had many experts on this subject. Secondly, President Putin also offered a certain level of cooperation by sending Russian team to investigate and identify the plane wreckage,” Faizasyah explained.     

SBY accepted the offers and he contacted some institutions involved in the case to enable them starting the cooperation as soon as possible. “We will contact Indonesian and Russian embassies to follow up our plan,” he said. Meanwhile, SBY also emphasized the importance of informing the families of Sukhoi victims about Indoensias-Russian cooperation on this investigation.
